Frequently asked questions

Everything people usually ask about Quote Daddy — the free stock-tracking app for beginner investors.

Why was Quote Daddy created?

After years of wrestling with cluttered, poorly designed stock apps, Quote Daddy was built out of necessity — a fast, clean dashboard with everything that matters in the right place. All in one clean and tidy package.

Are the prices real-time?

US-listed stocks and ETFs stream live during market hours — prices update as trades happen, supplied by third parties including Finnhub. Canadian listings (.TO, .V, .CN) are delayed, typically by 15 minutes or more, and update periodically rather than streaming. Outside market hours you'll see the last traded price. All figures are for informational purposes only and are not guaranteed to be accurate, complete, or suitable for trading decisions.

Which markets are covered?

Major US exchanges (NYSE, Nasdaq) plus Canadian listings on the TSX (.TO), TSX Venture (.V), CSE (.CN) and Cboe Canada / NEO (.NE). Search by company name or ticker to add any supported symbol.

How do I add stocks to my watchlist?

Tap the search box, type a company name or ticker, and select it. You can create multiple lists, rename them, and drag to reorder. New symbols are added to the top of the list.

How do I share a watchlist with someone?

Open the list you want to share and tap “⤴ Share” (next to Sort) — a link is copied to your clipboard, ready to paste into a message or email. The whole list rides inside the link, so there's nothing else to set up.

Someone sent me a watchlist — how do I add it?

Two ways, and both add it as a brand-new list in your account (a copy that's yours to edit). 1) Just open the link they sent — Quote Daddy will ask “Add this watchlist?”; tap Add. If you're not signed in yet, sign in first and it'll offer to add it straight after. 2) Or go to Menu → Import a watchlist and paste the link (or code) there. Importing makes your own copy — editing it never changes the sender's list, and vice versa.

How do I add a note to a stock?

Open any stock and look just under the price — there's a box that says “Add a note about [TICKER]…”. Type your note and it saves automatically (no save button). Once a stock has a note, a 📝 icon appears next to it on your watchlist. Notes sync across your devices when you're signed in.

How do I set a price alert?

Open any stock, tap the bell icon, and choose a price or percent-move trigger. Manage all your alerts under Menu → Price Alerts. Turn on email alerts in Settings to also be notified by email when one triggers.

How does the AI analysis work, and what can it do?

Open any stock, ETF, index, commodity or crypto and tap the Analyze button. Quote Daddy reads that instrument's live numbers and its recent news headlines, then writes a short plain-English briefing covering why it moved today, how its sector is doing, how the past year has gone, what the key numbers actually mean, and what the company or fund does. It's generated fresh each time you ask — it isn't a canned description — so it reflects where things stand right now. It's built to explain things in everyday language rather than to predict anything: it won't tell you what to buy or sell, it can occasionally get something wrong, and nothing it writes is financial advice. Treat it as a starting point and check the underlying numbers yourself.

Where do insider transactions and filings come from?

Insider activity (Form 3/4/5) and company filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and more) come directly from the SEC's EDGAR system. These are available for US-listed companies.

How do I switch themes or change the button color?

Go to Menu → Settings → Appearance. You can toggle between dark and light mode and pick your button color (green, blue, or grey). Your choice is saved on your device.

How do I change my password or email?

Menu → Security lets you update your password, change your email address, or delete your account.

Why does a stock show "—" or no data?

That usually means the market is closed, the symbol isn't supported, or live data is briefly unavailable. Try again in a moment, and double-check the ticker — Canadian symbols need a suffix like .TO or .V.

Is my information private?

Your watchlists, alerts, and settings are tied to your account. We don't sell your personal information.

Is this investment advice?

No. Quote Daddy is an informational tool only. Nothing in the app is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice — always do your own research before making any decision.
